Schizophrenia is brain disease characterized by positive symptoms such as delusions or hallucinations. Often, hallucinations manifest as auditory in nature. Some report that it presents like “hearing voices” when no voices are present. There is a breakdown in relation between thought, emotion and behavior. The disorder affects a person’s ability to think, feel and behave clearly.  Often negative symptoms present as blunting of affect, apathy, reduced social drive, loss of motivation, lack of social interest, and inattention to social or cognitive input.
